POLL: Is Police Precinct Merger Plan Moving too Fast?

This week, County Executive Ed Mangano's plan to  made it out of committee.

The proposal to convert four current precincts, including the Eighth, into community policing centers passed through the public safety committee.

There was a rally outside the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building by those who opposed the proposal and , was heckled by police in the audience while trying to explain why he voted to move the plan out of committee, according to the Long Island Press.

Nassau PBA has been going door-to-door urging Farmingdale residents to call Belesi in support of keeping all precints open and there are also signs around Farmingdale with the same message.

Mangano has accused critics of the plan of "playing politics with public safety," stressing that all 177 patrol cars in Nassau County will remain on the streets. The vote by the full legislature is expected on Feb. 27.
