Rams Scoreboard: Baseball Sweeps Senior Day

Buckshaw pitches no-hitter for softball team, outscoring opponents 50-0.

Highlights from this week's spring sports at include a pair of victories for the baseball team, Nicole Farber's four homeruns and eight RBI and the men's lacrosse team remaining undefeated in conference play. Check back every Tuesday for this weekly report of game summaries.

Softball

Farmingdale State 25, Mount Saint Vincent 0: The Rams (24-4, 12-2) scored ten runs in the top of the fifth to sweep their weekend in game two on Saturday. Heather Buckshaw gave up a hit to the second batter of the game but did not allow another player to reach base the rest of the way. She pitched all five innings, giving up the one hit, zero walks and struck out five. Nicole Farber hit two home runs and knocked in eight RBI. Amanda Maass also hit two homers, going a perfect 5-5 with five RBI and four runs scored.

Farmingdale State 18, Mount Saint Vincent 0: Buckshaw threw the third no-hitter for the Rams in game one on Sunday. She pitched all five innings, did not allow a run, a hit, or a walk and struck out eight. The Rams committed an error in the bottom of the fourth to eliminate the perfect game. Farber remained hot at the plate hitting a grand slam in the second inning. She again hit two homeruns and knocked in eight RBI. Jennifer Jarczynski also homered in the second inning, a two run shot to center.

Farmingdale State 6, Mount Saint Mary 0: Hope Zino allowed just two hits and struck out ten as the Rams won game two on Friday. Jarczynski went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI. Rebecca Richman walked twice and came around to score each time. Farmingdale State only had three RBI on their six runs. Zino improves to 14-1 on the season and leads the Skyline Conference with a 1.30 earned run average.

Farmingdale State 1, Mount Saint Mary 0: Farber doubled to start out the fourth and then scored on a groundout for the only run of a pitcher's duel in game one on Friday. Zino earned the hard fought win, pitching the complete game and allowing four hits and a walk while striking out nine. Kristen Flint hit the RBI groundout, going 1-2 on the day. Kaitlin Keenan went 3-4 at the plate.

Men's Lacrosse 

Farmingdale State 11, Maritime 6: The Rams (7-4, 4-0) scored four straight goals to end Senior Day with a win on Saturday. Maritime rallied to cut the deficit to one before Farmingdale State went on the run to close it out. Jimmy Owsinski was the game's leading scorer with four goals. Wes Hubschmitt scored two goals and an assist. The Rams were outshot 36-25 in the contest and won only eight of the 21 faceoffs. Brian Nerny registered 11 saves in his final regular-season home game.

Farmingdale State 10, Kean 6: Nerney made 14 saves to keep the Rams undefeated in the conference on Wednesday. Kean scored three times in 1:34 in the second quarter to tie the game at five before the Rams who go on a 4-0 run to take control of the game. Ryan Oswald scored four times, including three in that 4-0 run that put the Rams on top. Hubschmitt scored a goal and added five assists to lead the team in points. Farmingdale State was outshot 36-25.

Women's Lacrosse

Farmingdale State 14, Sage 0: The Rams (7-5, 6-1) defense allowed just eight shots, including two in the second half, in shutting out Sage on Saturday. Courtney Cook registered the shutout, making five saves. Emily Williams scored three goals and two assists while Justine Rothar led the team in points with six (two goals, four assists). The win sets up a showdown with undefeated Montclair State where the winner would have the inside track for the number one seed in the Skyline Conference tournament.

Ramapo 13, Farmingdale State 11: The Rams rallied from four goals down late in the second half to tie the score at 11 before Ramapo scored twice in the closing moments to win the game on Wednesday. Williams scored a hat trick, including two of those four late goals. Carly Schneider led Farmingdale State with four goals while Cook made eight saves. The Rams tallied just one assist and were outshot by Ramapo 26-33. Chelsea Bjornsson was red carded with 12:40 remaining. The loss was the first in the conference for the Rams, who are now tied for second place with Ramapo at 6-1.

Baseball

Farmingdale State 13, NYU-Poly 1 (5 innings): The Rams scored nine runs in the first inning to win a rain-shortened game two on Saturday to sweep Senior Day. Frank Yera was the big bat, doubling twice in going 3-4, knocking in three runs and scoring three times himself. Farmingdale State starting pitcher Vinny Messana struck out four batters in two innings of work, one of four pitchers used in the short game.

Farmingdale State 24, NYU-Poly 0: The Rams scored nine runs in the second inning to take game one of Senior Day on Saturday. Senior outfielder Ryan Rubenstein hit his first home run of the season, an inside the park shot in the third inning. Classmate Kevin Curtis went 4-5 with two doubles, three RBI, and a pair of runs. Second baseman Danny DeVito went 3-4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Five Rams pitchers contributed to the shutout, scattering nine hits while striking out nine and walking none. NYU-Poly committed nine errors leading to 11 unearned runs.
