Rams Scoreboard: Farmingdale State Teams Take Top Spots
Spring teams gear up for the playoffs this week.
Highlights from this week's spring sports at include the baseball and men's lacrosse teams finishing the regular season in first place and the other teams preparing for the post season. Check back every Tuesday for this weekly report of game summaries.
Softball
Farmingdale State 5, Baruch 0: Aubrey Walker doubled in two runs as part of a four run fourth inning to give the Rams (29-5, 14-2) the victory in the regular season finale on Friday. Hope Zino (17-1) limited Baruch to just one hit and two walks over five innings while striking out six. Jennifer Jarczynski went 1-3 and knocked in three runs to lead Farmingdale State. The Rams won the Skyline Conference regular season and will host a playoff game against Mount Saint Mary. Farmingdale State swept both games against Mount Saint Mary by a combined score of 7-0.

Farmingdale State 1, Baruch 0 (8 innings): Kaitlin Keenan came around to score on an error to give the Rams the extra-innings win in game one on Friday. Heather Buckshaw (11-3) pitched her 18th career shutout, allowed just three hits over eight innings. Rebecca Richman went 2-4 at the plate but the rest of the Rams were silent, going 2-25.
Farmingdale State 2, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 0: Buckshaw struck out eight batters and allowed only three hits in shutting out St. Joseph's in game two on Wednesday. Walker tripled home an insurance run in the fifth inning to give Buckshaw all the cushion she would need. Richman went 2-3 and scored both runs for the Rams. St. Joseph's Alyson Chirarmonte suffered her first loss of the season, despite allowing just five hits and striking out seven.

Farmingdale State 8, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 0: Zino struck out 14 of the 16 batters to face her in a five inning victory in game one on Wednesday. She allowed just one hit and zero walks, losing the bid for the perfect game with two outs in the fifth. Kristen Flint went 3-3 knocking in two RBI and scoring once to carry the offense. Keenan and Richman each went 2-3 with a run scored. Zino caught a pop-up to account for all 15 outs in the game.
Staten Island 6, Farmingdale State 0: Staten Island's Stefanie Solari shut out the Rams in game two on Tuesday, ending their win streak at eight games. Solari allowed seven hits in seven innings and walked none. Staten Island did their damage in the second inning, scoring four times on two hits. Buckshaw took the loss by allowing six earned runs on eight hits over seven innings. Flint went 2-3, the only Ram with more than one hit.
Farmingdale State 8, Staten Island 0: Nicole Farber homered as part of a five-run third inning to give the Rams the win in game one on Tuesday. Zino pitched another gem, allowing just three baserunners over six innings. Richman came up big at the plate, hitting a pair of doubles in going 3-3 with three RBI and a run. Keenan hit 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Men's Lacrosse
Farmingdale State 20, Richard Stockton 7: The Rams put ten goals up on the scoreboard before the opponent scored to end the regular season undefeated in the conference on Saturday. Ryan Oswald netted six goals, Bobby Thomas had a balanced game with four goals and four assists, and Wes Hubschmitt tallied six assists and a goal. Brian Nerney made seven saves and allowed a single goal in 41:39 of action. The Rams end the season on a seven game win streak, last losing over a month ago (March 22). The smallest margin of victory in conference play was three goals. They draw Kean in the first round, who Farmingdale State beat 10-6 less than two weeks ago.
Farmingdale State 19, Mount Saint Vincent 3: The Rams scored ten goals in the first half, building a nine point lead that could not be overcome in a victory on Wednesday. Thomas was the leading scorer with four goals and three assists. Shannon Robinson netted two goals and three assists. The Rams outshot Mount Saint Vincent 46-19 in the game including a 20-2 advantage in the first quarter.

Women's Lacrosse
Centenary 12, Farmingdale State 9: Centenary scored the first three goals and would not relinquish the lead in downing the Rams on Friday. Farmingdale State cut the deficit to two at 10-8 with 13 minutes left before the opponent scored twice more for a comfortable cushion. Krystin Shand had a hand in five of the team's scores with three goals and two assists. Courtney Cook registered 11 saves in the loss. The Rams finished in third place in the conference and will play against Mount Saint Mary in the first round of the playoffs. The Rams were victorious in their previous meeting, 11-4 on the road.
Montclair State 20, Farmingdale State 9: Montclair State scored eight straight goals in the final 7:11 of the first half to down the Rams on Tuesday. The Red Hawks remain undefeated in conference play behind Cora Delfini's five goals. Farmingdale State had early leads of 3-1 and 4-3 before Montclair State went on the run for the double digit victory. Emily Williams scored three goals and had an assist while Krystin Shand scored two goals on three shots and added two assists. The Rams were outshot 33-23 in the game.

Baseball
Farmingdale State 4, Maritime 1: Kevin Curtis hit a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth to lead the Rams (18-11, 12-4) to a victory in their regular season finale on Wednesday. CJ Bula remained undefeated on the mound (5-0), pitching all seven innings and allowing one run on just three hits while striking out five. Curtis went 2-3 knocking in three of the team's four RBI. The Rams finish conference play on a four game winning streak, giving them second place in the Skyline and a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
Farmingdale State 8, Maritime 0: The Rams hit four home runs to win game one on Wednesday. Centerfielder Frank Yera homered twice in the contest, going 3-4 with a pair of RBI and three runs scored. Chris Phelan (5-3) shut down Maritime, giving up just six hits over 7.1 innings and struck out seven. Brandon Cruz and Ryan Rubenstein also homered for the Rams.

Outdoor Track
The Rams finished second in a quad meet at Richard Stockton on Thursday. Corine Magee won four events including a school record in the 4x100m relay. Victoria Mandat, Kathleen Clermont, and Faustine Chukwuezi joined Magee on the record setting team with a time of 48.77. Steven Brown won the high jump and the 110m high hurdles as well as placing second in the 400m intermediate hurdles. Qasim Ellis took first in the triple jump and the long jump.
