State Spending Millions To Repair Route 100 Bridge

The work will increase the safety and lifetime of the bridge, which spans Route 109.

New York State announced on Monday that work is beginning on repairs to the Route 100 bridge that spans Route 109 in Farmingdale.

The work is part of a $9.5 million plan to repair three bridges on Long Island. The others are on Route 107 in Sea Cliff and the Northern State Parkway. The state will also add more traffic cameras to roads so residents can get real-time info on road and traffic conditions through the state's 511NY program.

“These new projects will ensure continued safe access for commuters and expanded information for 511NY users,” said New York State Department of Transportation Acting Commissioner Paul Karas.

The work on the 110 span is already beginning, the state said. It includes repairing the concrete and steel, replacing parts and repaving the bridge. The state says that the repairs will keep the bridge safe for another 15 to 20 years.

Construction work will be scheduled mostly at night and during off-peak daytime hours to minimize the impact on traffic.
