The Great Escape: Pamper Yourself at Massage Envy
A great place for stressed-out moms to relax.
This weekend, I departed from everything and everybody - without leaving Farmingdale. For one hour, I escaped to experience my first massage.
Yes, my first massage, even though I’m a mother of three young kids. You’d think I’d be racing to make the appointment, but I was somewhat nervous because I didn’t quite know what to expect and if I’d truly feel reinvigorated as everyone told me I would.
I received a gift card for Christmas for a one-hour treatment at (224 Airport Plaza Blvd., Farmingdale, 631-393-2995). I called mid-week for a time slot on Saturday, and fortunately I got an appointment with a female therapist (you can choose a male or female depending on preference).

My nerves were front and center as I pulled into the Airport Plaza parking lot and walked toward the Massage Envy storefront. My nerves soon got a hold of themselves, though, as I was greeted by the friendly receptionist. While sitting in the front lobby, I filled out some brief paperwork and learned that a one-hour massage consists of five minutes of therapist consultation, 50 minutes of massage and five minutes of dressing.
I sat in the “quiet room” while I waited to meet my massage therapist, Carmel. The name quiet room amused me because there isn’t one of those in my house. But thanks to a calming décor of soft colors and comfortable chairs, I instantly started to relax.

Upon meeting Carmel, she led me to a standard treatment room with a massage table that had a warming blanket and crisp white sheets. The dim lighting provided a relaxing ambiance. Once I was ready, Carmel came back into the room and asked if there were any specific areas I wanted addressed during the massage. After we finished talking, I lay down on the table and the tranquility began.
For 50 minutes, I did not say a word. I simply released my thoughts and stress and let myself completely unwind she massaged my neck, back, arms and legs. I experienced a sense of serenity and peace that is in stark contrast to my everyday life. When my massage was over, Carmel brought me back to the quiet room where I had a glass of water and relaxed for a few minutes.
Before I left, the courteous woman at the front desk explained that Massage Envy offers monthly memberships. Often with this type of business, customers are given the heavy sell to become members however, I did not experience that at all. She simply explained the pricing and member privileges and asked if I had any questions.
While I would love to have a massage every month, I was not ready to commit at that time, though it did seem like a very good deal. Monthly membership is $59 and provides one 60-minute massage per month. Additional massages during the month are $49 for one hour. Six- and 12-month memberships are also available. There are additional options available at member rates as well. Gratuities are not included.
For those looking to experience their first massage or who have never been to Massage Envy, the company offers an introductory one-hour massage for $49.
With convenient hours (Sunday, 10 am – 6 pm; Monday – Friday, 9 am – 9 pm; Saturday, 9 am -8 pm), free parking and affordable rates, Massage Envy offers a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.
After such a wonderful experience, I wondered why I was ever anxious about the massage in the first place. It was, hands-down, the best gift I was ever given.
