What is Lent?

From where I sit,

The season of Lent is like
life; a journey we take filled with pitfalls of our own doing but also
recognizing what it takes to work our way out of them. Life throws us
many curveballs; an unexpected job loss, a terrible Doctors appointment, the
loss of a loved one, a bitter divorce, anxiety and stress due to life circumstances.
These curveballs are often out of our control. Yet we still must endure
and make our way through the wilderness we have been thrown into by these
problems.

Lent’s journey begins by
reminding us of the time Jesus was thrown into the wilderness to be
tested. Lent reminds us that even amidst life’s journey through the
painful wilderness, God is right by our side because Jesus was in the
wilderness experiencing the same tests that we endure. We have and
believe in a Savior who like us, has experienced what we experience, and sets
for us an example to follow. God loves us and calls to us in the
wilderness to remind us that He has been there too, and He Will be by our side.

And that is the way I see it
from where I sit.
