Wrestling: Farmingdale 2011 Preview
With a lot of talent and experience, the Dalers are expected to make it very far this wrestling season.
As Head Coach Ken Garcia enters his 13th year at , he is very confident in his team's potential, especially the class of 2011 wrestlers.
"The routine is pretty much the same as last year's, we just have to make some adjustments to fill the spots of the four seniors who graduated," Garcia said. "We have a good mix of students, but the upperclassmen are really handling things and a couple of juniors will also step up for us."
Last season, three of Farmingdale's wrestlers placed in the Nassau County championships. With momentum still stirring from last year's successful season, the Dalers are ready to dominate on the mat.

Position Breakdown: The varsity team is compiled of a handful of senior wrestlers, unlike last season where there was only four. Although the upperclassmen are the essence and backbone of this year's team, the entire squad is expected to deliver for the Dalers. Leading the team will be senior captains Ben Rosen, Josh Jeannoute, Vincent Schultz and Conrad Rosales.
Ben Rosen is currently undefeated, with a record of 15-0. Rosen has been wrestling his entire high school career. Mike Reid is also undefeated at 15-0. "Ben and Mike are off to a really good start and should do real well for us," Garcia said of the senior wrestlers.
Josh Jeannoute stands at 13-2 so far this season. "The two guys he did lose to are pretty highly ranked kids so he did a good job," Garcia said of Jeannoute's record.
P.J. Waszkiewicz, a returning varsity wrestler is one of the younger stars this season. "He's one junior we are looking at to have a really good year," Garcia said.
Senior Brendan Tenny, wrestling in the heavyweight class, traveled to the county championships last year for the Dalers. "He's wrestling really well also," Garcia said. "He is our only returning all county kid."
Expectations: "Last season we did real well, we had a dual meet record of 20-11," Garcia said. "We want to beat our 20 dual meet wins from last year and we are off a really good start. This year we also set a goal to finish in the top five in the county, we think that is realistic for us. We have a lot of guys, and a lot of depth to make the appropriate changes from last year."
Key Meets:
- Dec. 21, Baldwin @ Farmingdale High School
- Jan. 6, Hicksville @ Farmingdale High School
- Jan. 14, East Meadow @ Farmingdale High School
"The whole season is a grind, but this year East Meadow will definitely be competition, and Baldwin coming up will be a pretty good match," Garcia said of their future opponents.
