• Fire Island Ferry Carriers Cancel Weekend Service Ahead of Storm (fireislandnews.com) — Ferry service between Fire Island and the mainland is being halted this weekend as a nor'easter approaches, with passenger runs canceled for most communities and freight suspended. Ocean Beach officials are urging voluntary self-evacuation due to likely power outages, warning that the last boats off the island run Friday afternoon and evening and that service may remain suspended until conditions improve.
