4 Students from Five Towns Named Siemans Regional Finalists

Five others named semifinalists last week.

Four talented students from the Five Towns were named regional finalists in the prestigious Siemens science research competition.

Two Lawrence High School students and two Hebrew Academy of Five Towns and Rockaway students are among 97 students chosen as regional finalists.

Lawrence High School’s Lee Blackburn and Arthur Chen and HAFTR’s Russell Charnoff and Justin Lish joined the ranks of 17 other New York regional finalists.

Blackburn, Chen, and Lish worked together on their project to enhance hydrogen-fuel cell performance, according to Newsday.

There were times when there were arguments, but then there were times where we worked together harmoniously,” Blackburn said, according to the report.

Five other students from Five Towns were named semifinalists last week and included:

  • Meghan Bialt-DeCelie, Hewlett High School
  • Benjamin Golbin, Hewlett High School
  • Adina Singer, Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls
  • Levy Sominsky, Hewlett High School

The regional finalists will advance to the national finals in December at The George Washington University.
