Lawrence Middle School Celebrates Black History Month with Inspiring Activities

LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 2024)—Throughout February, Lawrence Middle School proudly celebrated Black History Month, a month-long tribute to the rich cultural heritage and contributions of African Americans. The school held a series of engaging activities and events to educate and inspire its students.

Principal Willis Perry expressed his excitement about celebrating Black History Month. “We believe our students must learn about the rich history and contributions of African Americans,” Principal Perry said. “Through these activities, we hope to inspire our students and foster an appreciation for diversity and cultural heritage.”


To kick off the first week of Black History Month, Lawrence Middle School’s morning announcements featured readings of powerful poems by renowned black poets. These artists, whose words have resonated throughout history, have played a crucial role in shaping the world we live in today. By sharing their works, the school aims to foster appreciation for the diverse voices that have shaped our world and continue to inspire generations.

During the second week of February, Lawrence Middle School immersed itself in the spirit of Black History Month through the rhythmic sounds of jazz and reggae. Both musical genres have deep roots in the rich heritage of black musicians. As students moved through the school hallways, they were serenaded by iconic melodies and beats that have shaped cultural landscapes.
Lawrence Middle School also dedicated moments throughout the month to delve into the profound narratives of black history. Over the loudspeaker and in select classrooms, the voices of remarkable individuals and pivotal moments echoed through the halls. Through captivating readings and presentations, students gained a deeper understanding of the resilience, triumphs, and cultural contributions of African Americans.
