Hicksville Man Sentenced To 25 To Life After Predatory Sexual Assault Conviction: DA

MINEOLA, NY — A Hicksville man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison Wednesday after being convicted of predatory sexual assault and other charges, prosecutors said.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said 40-year-old Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez had been convicted May 6 of the aforementioned count of predatory sexual assault, three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of second-degree attempted assault, one count of third-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and a count of aggravated harassment.

According to prosecutors, those charges stemmed from a “months-long pattern of abuse” in the latter half of 2023 with a woman he met in a deli. Prosecutors said Alvarado showed up at the woman’s apartment Aug. 27, the day after he met her, and threatened her at gunpoint. Over the next few weeks, prosecutors said, Alvarado “abused, threatened and harassed” the woman, “culminating in a final sexual assault at gunpoint.”

Prosecutors said Alvarado smashed the woman’s cell phone and physically assaulted her on Nov. 26, 2023, while the two were in her car.

“[Alvarado] then drove the victim to a psychiatric center in Brentwood, where the incident escalated,” Prosecutors said. “[Alvarado] threatened to cut off the victim’s hand and claimed to have murdered and buried a former girlfriend on the grounds. He threatened to kill and bury the victim in the same location. The defendant later drove the victim back to his house in Hicksville, where he sexually assaulted her.”

Three days later, on Nov. 29, 2023, Alvarado sent the woman intimidating text messages, including a video of a pair of guns with which he had previously threatened her life, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, Alvarado was arrested the day he sent those texts. A search of his bedroom revealed a handgun, a magazine, multiple rounds of ammunition and multiple state ID cards with his photo and different names, prosecutors said. Also recovered in the jacket that Alvarado wore at the time of his arrest were a loaded gun, a magazine and ammunition, prosecutors said.

Wednesday, prosecutors said Alvarado would serve 25 years to life behind bars.

“The terror, manipulation, and violence that Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez inflicted on his victim have finally come to an end,” Donnelly said. “The defendant used fear and the constant threat of weapons to control the woman’s life, but her tremendous courage to come forward and speak out is what broke that control. We hope today’s sentence brings the victim a sense of peace, knowing this dangerous predator is off our streets and can no longer hurt her. This sentence serves as a warning that my office will use every tool at our disposal to hold violent abusers fully accountable for the pain and suffering they cause.”
