Chabad of Hewlett Celebrates Unity

Dedication of a unique new Torah Scroll at The Chabad House of Hewlett

A Large crowd of local residents, leaders and representatives from Holland, Colorado, Florida, and Israel joined on Sunday afternoon for a momentous occasion of joy and unity to celebrate the dedication of a unique new Torah Scroll at The Chabad House of Hewlett.

The celebration included a Musical Entertainment, Festive Dancing and Buffet Lunch. A short prayer for peace in Israel led by Rabbi Elad Cohen from Israel.

While the adults enjoyed great food, L’chaim and dancing, the kids’ room was full with busy children. They had their own exciting program, which included “build a Torah,”, getting their name written on authentic parchment with feather and ink by a scribe, and a special presentation on the making of parchment, ink and quill.

Residents had the opportunity, with the help of a “sofer” (scribe), to write the finishing letters of the new Torah that was dedicated by the Ginzburg family.

The “Traveling Torah Scroll” will travel all around the world to assist small Jewish communities that do not have their own Torah and already making it way to Destin, Florida to be the first torah scroll in the small Jewish community there led by the Chabad Rabbi Shaya Tenenboim.
