Five Towns School Budget Vote, Board Election Tuesday

What you need to know.

Five Towns residents will head to the polls Tuesday to vote on the proposed 2015-16 school budget and elect school board candidates.

Hewlett-Woodmere

The proposed budget of $113,628,101 is a 1.49 percent spending increase over the current year and includes a 1.41 percent hike in the school tax levy.

In addition to the proposed budget, incumbents Jonathan Altus, Melissa Gates, and Stephen Witt are running unopposed for the Board of Education.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Woodmere Education Center.

Lawrence

The proposed budget of $98,563,486 represents a 3.08 percent increase over the current year. It includes a 1.5 percent tax levy increase.

Two seats are up for grabs on the Lawrence Board of Education. Heshy Blachorsky and Asher Matathias are running for Uri Kaufman’s seat. Matthew Russo is challenging incumbent Abel Feldhamer.

Voting will be held from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. at No. 2 School in Inwood, Lawrence Middle School and Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, and Atlantic Beach Village Hall. More info here.
