Hewlett-Woodmere Creates Funds From Art Project Proceeds
District will use money from Project Bulldog auction to create scholarships and trust fund.
The will use proceeds from its Project Bulldog program to establish two scholarships and a trust fund, the board of education said at its meeting at district headquarters yesterday.
"Project Bulldog received praise while putting smiles on the faces of many," said Liz Friedman, a student at who painted one of the bulldogs. "Our efforts have raised much money. Tonight we announce the formation of a school-based trust fund."
Project Bulldog started last year and had students and other artists from the community paint a 3D version of the school's mascot. Thirty-seven bulldogs were auctioned off and one was given as a gift to the Hewlett Elementary School. The Hewlett-Woodmere Endowment Fund donated $65,480.54 to establish the Art Honor Society Bulldog scholarship, the Project Bulldog Scholarship and the Bulldog Visual Art Education Trust.

"Last spring our entire community was thrilled to celebrate Project Bulldog as our artists completed, and then displayed, their work through Hewlett and Woodmere," said Hewlett-Woodmere Superintendent Dr. Joyce Bisso, who bought one of the bulldogs, Murray, which she keeps in her office. "A spectacular need of celebration and a spirited auction provided homes for our bulldogs and funds to support arts education."
The district acknowledged the following students for their involvement in Project Bulldog: Friedman, Abigail Cotler, Kate Browse, Jessica Park, Jonah Greebel, Vlad Nemirovsky, Almog Cohen-Kashi and Samantha Kirshner.
