Man Attacked Security Guard While Shoplifting: Nassau Police

Police say the two got into a fight when the security guard tried to stop him from leaving the store with merchandise he stole.

A Queens man was arrested in Valley Stream on Saturday after police say he attacked a security guard while trying to shoplift from a store.

According to police, Maximo Burdier, 18, of South Ozone Park, entered the Walmart at 77 Green Acres Road at 7:04 p.m. and tried to leave the store without paying. He was approached by the store's loss prevention officer, and police say a struggle began.

Burdier was subdued, but police say the 38-year-old loss prevention officer suffered cuts to his knee, hand and face during the struggle. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Burdier is charged with first- and second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. He was arraigned on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
