Passenger Killed In Weekend Five Towns Crash ID'd: Police

The driver, a former NYPD officer, faces charges that include driving while intoxicated and manslaughter, police said.

NORTH WOODMERE, NY — The victim of a fatal weekend crash in North Woodmere has been identified, police said.

Pablo Rivera, 22, of Valley Stream, was the passenger in a 2023 Toyota that lost control and overturned on Rosedale Road, police said.

The car was driven by Aaron Cooper, of Lindenhurst, who was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter and second-degree assault.

Cooper, a former NYPD officer, was terminated in January 2023, a police spokesperson confirmed.

Cooper was taken to an area hospital with injuries and awaits arraignment on the charges, police said.
