Tractor-Trailer 'Reckless Driving' Hurts Two On Sunrise Hwy.: PD

David Gonzalez faces assault and reckless endangerment charges as two drivers were sent to the hospital with injuries, police say.

BELLMORE, NY — A tractor-trailer trucker faces multiple charges for causing injuries to a pair of drivers Friday night, police say.

David Gonzalez, 38, of Perth Amboy, NJ, struck a vehicle when his truck was stopped in the left-turn lane at the intersection of Bellmore Avenue just after 10 p.m., detectives say.

It caused a domino effect as the vehicle Gonzalez hit struck a car in that same turn lane, police say.

The first vehicle's victim, a 59-year-old man, suffered multiple injuries to his body and face. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police say.

The second male victim, 56, suffered neck and back injuries. He went to his own physician, detectives say.

Gonzalez was transported to a hospital with neck and back pain.

He was charged with two counts of third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, along with reckless driving. He was expected to be arraigned in Hempstead on Saturday, according to Nassau police.
