Internationally acclaimed trombonist, composer, and educator Wycliffe Gordon is celebrated for his powerful sound, masterful plunger mute technique, and deep roots in jazz tradition. A former member of the Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Gordon has appeared on more than 300 recordings and earned multiple DownBeat Critics Poll awards and a record 15 Jazz Journalists Association Trombonist of the Year honors. Alongside his global performing career, he continues to inspire new generations as Director of Jazz Studies at Augusta University.&nbsp;

Flushing Town Hall

Open to professional jazz musicians, graduate students studying jazz, music educators, and serious hobbyists, our Monthly Jazz Jams invite musicians to perform at Flushing Town Hall. All are welcome, regardless of instrument (vocalists, too!). Our Steinway baby grand and drum kit are available at each Jam.
FTH's Jazz Jam house band leader, Carol Sudhalter, plays flute, baritone, and tenor sax and has been running our Monthly Jazz Jams since 2016. She is joined by Joe Vincent Tranchina (piano), Eric Lemon (bass), and Scott Neumann (drums). Each house band member brings over 40 years of Jazz experience to the jam!

What to Expect All Day In the Garden: •	Enjoy refreshing beverages on a seat in our lovely garden. •	At our craft table, create a patriotic keepsake to commemorate this historic anniversary. The craft project is appropriate for kids (and adults!) of all ages. •	Try your hand at family-friendly outdoor games including "Ball &amp; Cup” and toy hoops! •	Please Note: All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of the event. Timed Programs: •	GUIDED TOURS: Choose from the following Tour Times: o	12:00pm to 12:45pm o	2:00pm to 2:45pm o	3:00pm to 3:45pm o	Learn about the unique history of Bowne House, built over 100 years before American Independence! Our educator will take you through centuries of Bowne House history- including what life was like for the family during the era of the American Revolution. Visitors will tour three period rooms and listen to stories of Bowne family history and lore, while viewing rare collection items and copies of archival documents. •	HISTORICAL READINGS: o	1:00pm to 1:30pm o	Listen as our educator reads aloud historical documents related to early Flushing and Bowne family history. Spirits from Both Sides brings together two distinct lineages of Afro-Cuban Jazz into a single evening to create an Afro-Taiwanese Jazz Orchestra. Six-time Grammy Award-winning pianist, composer, and bandleader Arturo O'Farrill, a leading voice in Afro-Latin Jazz, is joined by longtime collaborator, bassist and composer Vincent Hsu, whose award-winning music fuses Jazz and Afro-Cuban sounds with his Taiwanese roots, for an evening of cultural exploration spanning continents and traditions. We're pulling out the dance floor for this! Come and dance all night long!
