Relaxed Glendale restaurant offers creative, varied menu.

The Glendale street name “Edison Place” ceased to exist about 60 years ago, when the city chose to give the roadway a number and it became “71st Place.” However, the restaurant name “Edison Place” is alive and well these days and honoring its moniker with a succulent array of high-quality, creative food options in a friendly atmosphere.

In fact, the options are so numerous and varied that it’s hard to decide what to order. Consider the list of appetizers first. The Edison Place Crab Cakes with savoy cabbage slaw and horseradish dill vinaigrette sounds fantastic, but so does the Crispy Mushroom Tart, a flaky puff pastry topped with fontina, ricotta and parmesan cheese, caramelized onions, speck ham and truffle oil.

Then there’s the Crackling Pork Belly, smoked grilled pork belly with a Granny Smith apple and jalapeño compote, and the Grilled Duck & Cherry Sausage with potato pancakes and lingonberry sauce.

The choices only get harder in the entrée section. The most expensive item is the Smoked Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignon ($29), which comes with shitake and roast pepper hash, French beans and carrots, rosti potatoes and bordelaise sauce. Other options include Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb, which is served with sweet potato gratin, sautéed spinach and mint jus; and Grilled Atlantic Salmon Steak, which mixes zucchini with yellow squash, fingerling potatoes, forest mushrooms and tarragon mustard butter.

And don’t forget the Duck Two Ways, marinated grilled breast and confit leg with savoy cabbage, potato pancakes, dried cherries and kirsch sauce.

Repeat: And don’t forget the Free Range Chicken Kiev, a half chicken stuffed with garlic herb butter, breaded and baked with horseradish whipped potatoes, sautéed spinach, and natural juices; or Crispy Pork Shank, which is served with choucroute and homemade apple sauce.

And after all that, patrons must save some room for dessert. The Homemade Apple Strudel comes with cinnamon-spiced caramel and ice cream, while the New York Cheesecake features ginger Crème anglaise sauce, and the Cherry Crème Brûlée contains chocolate and pistachio biscotti.

As part of a weekday lunch special, Edison Place offers a carving station. Monday is corned beef, Tuesday is roast beef, Wednesday is Fresh ham, Thursday is turkey and Friday is pastrami. The daily blackboard specials feature chicken pot pie on Monday, loin of pork on Tuesday, Yankee pot roast on Wednesday, turkey on Thursday, lobster pot pie on Friday, beef wellington on Saturday and prime rib on Sunday.

On Sundays, the brunch entrées continue the creative tradition. The Stuffed French Toast is served with fresh berries, marscapone cheese and whipped cream. The Banana and Walnut Pancakes come with warm banana compote. And the Edison Place BLT utilizes double-cut applewood bacon with lettuce and tomato on sour dough bread with horseradish dill mayonnaise.

The ambiance is casual. High ceilings combine with chandeliers and mahogany interiors. There is no tablecloth as per a restaurant policy to emphasize the unfussy feel. Enjoy a spacious, neighborhood feel with a large bar that looks like a great place to watch a sporting event.

Prices: Entrées range from $17 to $29; appetizers and salads run from $9 to $13; and side dishes (creamed spinach, sautéed spinach, roasted forest mushrooms, horseradish mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, rosti potatoes, French fries, bitburger-battered onion rings) average around $7.

Specials: Valet parking on weekends. All major credit cards are accepted. From Monday to Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., an Early Bird special offer an appetizer, entrée and dessert for $19.95.
