Driver Released After Woman, 26, Killed In Rego Park Hit-And-Run
The pedestrian was struck by a taxi driver leaving a gas station on Queens Boulevard by 63rd Road, the New York Daily News reported.
REGO PARK, QUEENS - A pedestrian was killed Sunday in Rego Park by a green cab driver who struck her then fled the scene, the New York Daily News reported.
Sherena Hundalani, 26, was walking on the sidewalk along Queens Boulevard by 63rd Road when the taxi driver struck her as he was leaving the Mobil gas station at that corner around 4:04 p.m. Hundalani, a Rego Park resident, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead. The 55-year-old driver fled the scene.
Police stopped the driver near 62nd Drive and Junction Boulevard and took him into custody for questioning, then released him. No summonses were issued, a spokesperson said.

“I’m very surprised,” Prakash Hundalani, the woman's father, told the Daily News. “It was a hit-and-run.”
An investigation by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing.
