Peace, Love & Pottery: Two Kew Gardens Community Art Shows
Come Together As One!
The heart of April, a time of renewal and growth, includes the onset of spring and several global celebrations: the International Day of Peace devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations, Earth Day a day of collective environmentalism for a sustainable future and locally a
Kew Gardens’ multicultural celebration of global peace and goodwill through art entitled Peace, Love & Pottery.
In the spirit of collaboration, two Kew Gardens’ community art shows have come together as one! All are invited to view the Kew Gardens Global Art Project for Peace Exhibition and The Potter’s Wheel Artists Exhibit: “Off the Wall” from
April 2-April 22 at Austin’s Ale House. The Opening Reception will take place on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 6-10pm.
Some info about each of the art shows:
The Kew Gardens Global Art Project for Peace Exhibition will include nineteen Queens’ artists and two groups that have registered online with the Global Art Project (www.globalartproject.org), an award winning international organization that has linked 115,000 participants in 82 countries on seven continents. In March, participants all over the world (including Queens) are creating a work of art expressing their vision of global peace and good will. The art will be exhibited locally in each participant’s community during the first three weeks of April and then mailed to an assigned global partner in another country or state in the USA as a gift of global friendship. In October there will be another show at Austin’s Ale House exhibiting the artwork received from all of the global partners.
Using clay as their canvas, numerous potters have assembled a diverse grouping of wall art, The Potter’s Wheel Artists Exhibit: “Off the Wall”. Unlike painting on a flat plane, these works are three-dimensional, in some cases touchable, and some are also functional, meaning they're useful in many ways thereby inviting you to take them "off the wall" putting them into pleasurable service and use.
For those of you who are interested in ART, Peace, Love & Pottery, please join us at the Opening Reception on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 6-10 pm, at Austin’s Ale House in Kew Gardens (on view April 2-22).
