Queens Community Board 6 Meeting Still On Amid Coronavirus Scare
The new coronavirus outbreak is prompting some meeting cancellations, but Queens Community Board 6's meeting isn't one of them.

KEW GARDENS, QUEENS — Queens Community Board 6 will still hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, even as other community boards and local organizations across the city cancel events due to the spread of the new coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19.
"Understandably, we've heard from a number of CB [community board] and community members asking us if we're holding our meeting this evening in light of concerns regarding coronavirus," Queens Community Board 6 Chair Alexa Weitzman wrote in an email to board members Wednesday.
"As of today, the city's recommendation is not to cancel events/gatherings. We are following the city's recommendations and therefore we plan to have our meeting this evening."

Groups canceling meetings due to coronavirus concerns include Brooklyn Community Board 6, Brooklyn Community Board 11 and the community education councils for Brooklyn school districts 20 and 21.
Though Queens Community Board 6 will still meet, Weitzman urged anyone who feels sick or who may be more susceptible to the virus to not attend; the latter category includes the elderly and anyone with pre-existing conditions like heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, cancer or a weakened immune system.

"This is all a rapidly-changing landscape and I appreciate your patience as we navigate this "new normal," Weitzman wrote.
The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Kew Gardens Community Center. It will also be live-streamed on the board's Facebook page.
