Shuttered Shalimar Diner Slated For Demolition: Report
The Rego Park diner closed in 2018 after 45 years in business. Its new owners now plan to demolish it.

REGO PARK, QUEENS — An iconic Rego Park diner that closed last year will soon be bulldozed, according to reports.
The owner who bought Shalimar Diner last year has filed plans to demolish the building, the Forest Hills Post reported.
The Rego Park diner closed in November as a result of declining business and a rent hike, former owner Demi Karayiannis told the paper. Karayiannis had owned the diner with her husband since 1974, she said.

The current owner, 63-38 Austin LLC, bought the 14,000-square-foot site in November for $6.55 million in cash, according to QNS.com. The Forest Hills Post identified the buyer as Arthur Koptiev.
The diner at 63-38 Austin St. was in business for 45 years, according to the Forest Hills Post, and appeared in Martin Scorsese’s film “The Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013.
