$3k in Jewelry Stolen From Fort Greene Store Owned by Tibetan Refugees, Police Say
Two men stole $3,000 worth of jewelry from 21 Tara on Myrtle Avenue on Friday, said police.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Police are looking for two men who stole $3,000 in jewelry from a family-owned crafts store on Friday.
The suspects walked into 21 Tara — a Tibetan family-owned store that specializes in fair trade products — near Myrtle and Clermont avenues around 1:30 p.m. Friday, said police.
While one man walked up to the counter and spoke to the cashier, the second grabbed 60 pieces of sterling silver jewelry worth about $3,000, police said.

The two men then left the store before the clerk realized the jewelry had been taken, according to police.
21 Tara is owned by Tibetan immigrants who were raised in refugee camps and decided to open a fair trade shop after “having lived through hard times,” according to the store website.

The store says it promotes fair trade by buying goods directly from artisans and small family businesses in order to “create a collection that does as little harm as possible to people, and their environment.”
Police released surveillance images of the suspects — whom they describe as men wearing baseball caps and t-shirts — on Monday evening.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police.
