80-Year-Old Fort Greene Man's Killer Arrested, Cops Say

Aristidez Perez has been charged with the assault that cost 80-year-old Jose Vera his life, police said.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN -- Police arrested the man they believe beat an 80-year-old man to death on a Fort Greene street corner.

Aristidez Perez, 41, has been charged with attacking Jose Vera on the corner of Hanson and South Elliot places at about 8:10 p.m. on Aug. 26, police said.

Emergency responders rushed Vera to Methodist Hospital where doctors treated him for trauma on the back of his head, but ultimately could not save his life, said police.

Vera died on Sept. 1, said police.

Perez was charged with assault, menacing and harassment in Brooklyn Criminal Court three days before Vera died, court records show.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
