A Brutal Snowball Attack in This Week's Police Blotter

Here's your roundup of crime from within the 88th Precinct this week.

Laptop Rob

A brute bashed a man in the face and stole his laptop on Feb. 10.

The victim told cops he was St. Edwards Street between Park and Myrtle avenues at around 4 p.m. when the perp approached and asked him a question. Instead of waiting for an answer, the suspect clocked the 26-year-old victim in the face and stole his Dell Laptop, which cost around $500. Two days later Office Frank Liuzzi arrested a 17-year-old suspect for the robbery.

Elder Assaulted

Two kids pelted a 60-year-old woman with icy snowballs and then kicked her in the face while she was down on Feb. 8.

The victim told cops she was at St. Edwards Street and Myrtle Avenue at around 7 p.m. when the youngsters launched their cowardly attack.

Carol’s Daughter Rob

A daring robber stole $400 from the cosmetics store Carol’s Daughter on Feb. 12.

An employee at the store on S. Elliot Place DeKalb Avenue said that the suspect entered the store at around 8 p.m., simulated a weapon in his shirt, and ordered an employee to empty the safe. The worker complied, handing over the cash, as well as a set of keys.

iGrabs

  • A trio of thugs roughed up a guy riding a Manhattan-bound C train and stole his iPhone on Feb. 13. The 26-year-old victim told cops the train was pulling into the Clinton-Washington station at around 2:15 p.m. when one of the suspects stood above him and tried to steal his phone. During the struggle the two other suspects punched him in the left eye, forcing him to relinquish his phone. The thieves then ran out of the subway station.
  • A thief used the classic “bump and run” technique to steal a man’s iPhone at the Clinton-Washington Station at Lafayette and Washington avenues on Feb. 8. The victim told cops he was exiting a Queens-bound G train at around 3:30 p.m. when he was bumped. He added that he quickly realized what had just happened, but was unable to catch up with the suspect.

Cig Heist

Two thieves stole $2,400 worth of cigarettes from a delivery truck on Feb. 7.

The driver of the truck told cops he was parked on DeKalb Avenue and Vanderbilt Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. when he looked in his driver-side mirror and noticed two men walking away with boxes of cigarettes. They then hopped in a blue van and fled before the driver could get their license plate.

Busted

A thief was caught redhanded robbing a Myrtle Avenue building on Feb. 8.

A witness told cops he had spotted the suspicious character going back and forth from the Soo Ik Chae Home Improvement store between Waverly and Washington avenues and stashing property in a shopping cart. Cops then shook down the 51-year-old man and found he had an assortment of stolen goods, as well as the tools of his trade: a screwdriver, table saw, drills, and wire cutters.

Failed Thievery

A pair of punks threatened a 12-year-old kid and tried to rob his vest, but came away empty-handed on Feb. 7.

The victim told cops he was at Adelphi Street between Willoughby and DeKalb avenues at around 11:35 a.m. when the duo approached him and said, “Yo boy, come here, give me your vest.” The kid bravely replied “no!” to which one of the suspects replied, “You got 10 seconds to give me your vest.” The suspect then acted as if he were pulling weapon from underneath his shirt while his accomplice acted as a lookout. As the countdown began, the kid walked away without incident.

Car rob

A thief broke into a truck owned by a film company on Feb. 8.

The victims, who work for Handheld Films, told cops they had parked the ride in a public lot on Ashland Place at Fulton Street the day before at around 8 p.m. About 12 hours later they returned and saw that the lock to the truck had been broken and that an assortment of stuff was missing. Cops did not specify what was stolen.

Construction Caper

A thief stole an assortment of pricey construction equipment from a Vanderbilt Avenue worksite on Feb. 10.

The victims told cops they had last been at the site between Flushing and Park avenues the day before at around 11 a.m. When they returned about 16 hours later two drills, a nail gun, an automatic level  and a fancy work station — valued at $10,455 total — were missing from a locked storage box.

GPS Swipe

A thief broke into a car parked on DeKalb Avenue and stole an assortment of electronic equipment sometime between Jan. 30 and Feb. 4.

The owner of the Toyota Prius told cops she had parked her car between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street on the 30 at around 3 p.m. When she returned on the 5 days later at around 4 p.m. she was missing a GPS system, as well as the computer dashboard.

Bus Swipe

A thief swiped a woman’s wallet while she rode the B38 bus on Feb. 8.

The 59-year-old victim told cops she had her wallet when she boarded the bus at Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue. When she arrived at her destination 30 minutes later she realized missing her wallet, which contained an assortment of credit cards and IDs. She also discovered that there were unknown charges on her cards totaling $755.

Careless

A thief stole a woman’s purse that she had set down on the ground on Feb. 12.

The 33-year-old victim told cops she had put her bag down on Clermont Avenue between Park and Myrtle avenues at around 1 a.m. When she returned her attention to it seven minutes later when the thief made his move, stealing her bag containing an ID, $90, and a cellphone.

Laptop Larceny

A thief stole a laptop from a Tillary Street building on Feb. 13.

The victim told cops she had set down her computer in the building at Prince Street at around 9 a.m. When she went to look for it three hours later, the machine, valued at $1,615, was gone.

Unlocked Larceny

A thief took advantage of an unlocked car parked on Downing Street and stole an assortment of stuff on Feb. 13.

The owner of the auto told cops he had parked his ride between Gates and Putnam avenues at around 12:30 p.m. when he returned to his car about 9 hours later he noticed that he was missing an HD TV, a Louis Vuitton shoulder bag, and a cellphone charger, all worth a total of $2,420.

Thief at McDonald’s

A thief swiped a woman’s wallet from her purse while she ate at the McDonald’s on Flatbush Avenue on Feb. 11. The victim told cops had set her purse down at the fast food joint between DeKalb Avenue and Fulton Street at around 9:30 a.m. When she returned her attention to it two hours later (why was she there for so long?) he wallet was missing. She lost $40 and an assortment of credit cards and IDs.

Carjacked

A lightning-fast thief managed to steal a 2003 Lincoln Navigator after its owner had stepped out to check its tires on Feb. 11. The owner told cops he had stepped out of his ride at Atlantic Avenue and St. James Place at around 9:45 p.m. with the engine still running to check out the wheels. Before he knew it, someone else was driving his ride without him in it.

Car Vanished

A thief stole a 1990 Nissan Maxima parked on Park Avenue on Feb. 13.

The owner of the auto told cops he had last seen it two days before at N. Oxford Street at around 6:30 a.m. When he returned two days later it was gone.
