The Soul of Clinton Hill: "A Tribe Called Nappy"

A Brooklyn-based hip hop group emerging onto the scene with a new sound and flavor.

"I love performing, recording, writing and producing but what I love most about being in this group is the confused faces once they've matched the faces with the name." -Josh Kumomi (producer of Nappy Hair).

In September of 2010, three strangers were brought together by creativity during their first semester of college. As they grew to be friends they learned of each others musical ability and decided to make music together. Their first single "Those Eyes" was recorded when they were nameless and flat broke college students struggling to get credits. Then one sunny fall day in Brooklyn they decided to call themselves "NAPPY HAIR." The group name stirred up confusion because one of the boys is caucasian and it is supposed to says Josh Kumomi, the producer of Nappy Hair (pictured, far right) The name of this group is a metaphor for raw, natural and untainted by mainstream sounds. The big question that many people asked once they hear the music and then look at the picture is "Who does what"? Peter Parker (center) is the lyricist/rapper, Tremayne King (Left) is the vocalist who hits notes in the highest of registers and Josh Kumomi (right) is the producer/engineer of the group. These boys have done shows all over nyc and new jersey and continue to move forward. To hear their music go to
