Save the Geese!

Two local politicians are fighting to protect the geese of Prospect Park from another middle of the night massacre like the one that went down last summer. Councilmen Brad Lander and Steve Levin have introduced legislation that would establish a Wildlife Management Committee to oversee wildlife city parks. In theory, the group’s management efforts would eliminate the need for another mass culling carried out by federal agents.

A swanky new watering hole opening on Nostrand Avenue, and Bed-Stuy Patch was there for the soft opening. Our neighbor to the west reported that Vodou Bar is so styling that just walking in makes you feel sexy, “even when you’re clearly not.” Word on the street is it’s a classy and classic cocktail lounge, and a welcome addition to the rapidly changing neighborhood.

New Zoning For Boerum Hill On the Way

A proposed change to city zoning that would limit the height of buildings in Boerum Hill seems like a sure thing. Community Board 2’s Land Use committee approved the zoning change with practically no opposition, a sign that measure should sail through with minimal controversy.

A Ban on ‘ProCro?’

Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries has taken it upon himself to ban neighborhood names manufactured by real estate agents, and locals in Prospect Heights and Crown Heights (ProCro?) let out a collective shrug. Residents told a reporter that the ProCro neighborhood is a mirage that no one outside of real estate even sees — and wondered whether the bill was worth the legislative effort. On top of that, it’s unclear how the bill would be enforced, given that neighborhoods are not codified by the city in any way.
