Brooklyn Borough President Announces He's Team Uber

De Blasio is one soldier short.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams came out as Team Uber at the car company’s event today in Queensbridge Park.

After listening to various Uber drivers stand up in support of the private driving service, Adams said: “Your stories resonate throughout the entire borough.”

And ”as the borough president,” he added, “your right to provide for your families is something I will always stand up for.”

Minutes before, an Uber driver named Suliman, from Harlem, had told the crowd: ” ”I used to drive a yellow cab, I used to drive a limousine, and bottom line... Uber is a game changer. Uber is really a godsend. They put checks and balances into the taxi industry. We rate the passengers and the passengers rate us.”

Another driver said onstage: “I’m ready to do everything for my family, and this is the only way we can have honest jobs with respect. The thing I most love about Uber passengers are the respect they give us back. I never had respect until today.”

New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio and Uber executives have engaged in an all-out war in recent months. When the mayor proposed a bill to cap the number of Uber cars in the city, Uber added a sarcastic “De Blasio” tab to its app menu and challenged him to a debate.

De Blasio refused. “I do not debate with heads of private companies over their own self-interest,” he told the press.

So today, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, who has remained relatively neutral on the sidelines of the NYC vs. Uber warzone, made a real statement by rallying with the pro-Uber crowd.

New York is for empires, Adams said at the event, and ”Uber could be one of those empires.”

Regarding De Blasio’s proposal, the Brooklyn borough president said: ”Uber, City Hall, council, let’s put this bill to the side and ... have an intelligent conversation.”

Imagine that.
