Clinton Hill Restaurant Wins 2nd 'Greenest Storefront' In BK

CLINTON HILL, BROOKLYN — A local Italian restaurant's assortment of plants has earned it the title of the second "Greenest Storefront" in the borough, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens announced this week.

Aita, fittingly found at 132 Greene Ave., won second place in the storefront category of the Botanic Garden's annual "Greenest Block in Brooklyn" contest. The only storefront that beat out the eatery was Pro 1 Tire on Fourth Avenue in Greenwood Heights.

The restaurant was also not the only Clinton Hill spot to earn a second place award.

The residents of 245 Clermont Ave. also took home second place in the window boxes category. They were beaten out by two window boxes, one on 32nd Street and another on Snyder Ave., that tied for first place.

Unfortunately both the window-box winner and Aita will only get bragging rights, and not a monetary prize, from the competition. Only those that win first place in these two categories go home with a prize.

The winner of the competition's namesake this year was the a Crown Heights block on Lincoln Place between Nostrand and New York avenues.

Winning means the local block association — Preserving Lincoln's Abundant Natural Treasures, or PLANT — will receive a $300.

This is the 25th year of the competition and more than 160 blocks from about 30 neighborhoods vied for the title in 2019.

East 25th Street between Clarendon Road and Avenue D in Flatbush claimed second place and Stuyvesant Avenue between Bainbridge and Chauncey streets, the block that claimed the title in 2017, took third, officials said.
