BAMcinématek: My Nights Are More Beautiful Than Your Days (Mes nuits sont plus belles que vos jours)

Directed by Andrzej Zulawski
With Sophie Marceau, Jacques Dutronc

(1989) 100min, 35mm

Genius computer programmer Lucas (Dutronc) is diagnosed with an unknown malady that causes him to lose his memory and grasp of language. He nonetheless launches into an intensely passionate affair with a beautiful young fake psychic (Marceau) who performs in a bizarre nightclub act and suffers abuse from her gay husband. Zulawski’s hyper-kinetic filmmaking reflects the fractured, heightened emotional states of his characters in this erotic, often comic, and complex exploration of the frightening and all-consuming nature of love.
