BAMcinématek: Of Time and the City

Part of the BAMcinématek series Terence Davies

Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 4:30, 6:50, 9:15pm

Directed by Terence Davies

(2008) 74min, 35mm

“Poetically composed, with marvelous lumps of wit and perspective, Of Time and The City is a masterwork." —The Hollywood Reporter

This extremely personal love letter to Liverpool, the city of Davies’ birth, draws on archival footage and Davies’ hyper-literate, delightfully droll narration on everything from childhood and religion, to sex, art, memory, and the Beatles. The result is a highly subjective meditation on the passage of time—at once a celebration of Liverpool’s history and a lamentation for a city he no longer recognizes.
