BAMcinématek Presents: Diary of a Country Priest (Journal d’un cure de campagne)

Part of the BAMcinématek series Bresson

Tue, Apr 17, 2012 at 6:50, 9:15pm

Directed by Robert Bresson
With Claude Laydu

(1951) 115min, 35mm

Bresson adapts the great Catholic novelist George Bernanos’ study of the spiritual anguish of a young priest alienated from his worldly parishioners. A work of austere dignity—hushed, bleak, sad, and unforgettable—Diary of a Country Priest earned the Grand Prize at the 1951 Venice Film Festival and established Bresson’s international reputation as one of the truly great directors.
