BAMcinématek series: 10 Years of Magnolia Pictures

BAM celebrates visionary independent film distribution company Magnolia Pictures on its 10th anniversary by showing some of its instant films.

Wednesday, August 25 at 4:30, 6:50, 9:15pm, Read My Lips (Sur mes lèvres: French film (with English subtitles) about a partially-deaf long-suffering secretary.

Thursday, August 25 at 6:50pm, Night Catches Us, a film about a Philadelphia neighbor in the Black Power Movement, starring Anthony Mackie, Kerry Washington and Wendell Pierece. There will be a Q&A with director Tanya Hamilton and producer Ron Simons after the film.

Thursday, August 25 at 4:30 and 6:50pm, The Girlfriend Experience, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Sasha Grey, the 2009 film about a high-priced call girl.

Thursday, August 25 at 4:30 and 9:40pm,I Am Love (Io sono l'amore). A beautiful look at Italy landscape, food and people starring Tilda Swinton. In Italian and Russian with English subtitles.

Friday, August 26 at 2 and 7pm, Two Lovers. A 2008 film about a Brighton Beach family starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Joaquin Phoenix. Director James Gray will attend a Q&A after the 7pm film.

Saturday, August 27, 4:30, 9:30pm, Let the Right One In. 2008 Swedish vampire flick directed by Tomas Alfredson. There are English subtitles.

Saturday, August 27, 2, 7pm. The Host. Movie about a Korean mutant tadpole. Nuf said.

Saturday, August 27, 4:30, 9:40pm. Man On Wire. The documentary of Philippe Petit, a Frenchman who walked a wire between the Twin Towers in 1974.

Sunday, August 28, 2, 6:50pm. Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer. A sympathetic documentary about the former governor. A Q&A with director Alex Gibney.

Wednesday, August 31, 6:50pm. Great World of Sound, followed by a Q&A with director Craig Zobel.
