HCX | Haiti Film Fest Opening Night Reception

You are invited to an evening fundraiser for HCX that will start off our film festival with a bang and we would love to see you there! The evening will include a cocktail reception attended by some of the weekend's featured filmmakers and will host a special performance by one of Haiti's oldest bands, Orchestre Septentrional! Come join us for the party and the cause!

Orchestre Septentrional, or "Septen" as their wildly devoted fans call them, has brought Haitian big band to their countrymen and around the world for more than 60 years! Their brassy and vibrating beats have made Septen infamous and kept them alive and thriving for the better half of a century. Their performance will be sure to rock the house!

Afterwards, there will be a special screening of When the Drum is Beating by filmmaker and producer Whitney Dow. The film follows Orchestre Septentrional, weaving together the lives of the band members and Haitian history up to the earthquake of January 2010 into a celebration of Haitian perseverance and music.
