The highly acclaimed author of Lucky Girls and The Dissident and winner of the PEN/Malamud and Whiting awards as well as a Guggenheim fellowship, Nell Freudenberger returns to form with her new novel The Newlyweds. A story of love, marriage, secrets, and betrayals that takes us from the backyards of America to the villages of Bangladesh, the novel follows Amina, who moves from Bangladesh to Rochester, New York, to marry George, a seemingly steady, home-owning engineer, who has wooed her online. Freudenberger will read from the novel, which has been praised by authors like Kiran Desai, Ann Patchett, and Gary Shteyngart, who calls The Newlyweds "one of the most believable love stories of our young century". A wine reception will follow the reading.
