Fort Greene's Myrtle Ave. Summer Events Kick Off This Weekend
Free bagels for bicyclists, yoga classes for seniors and historical walking tours are all reasons to get outside in the neighborhood.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Whether you're looking to learn about recycling, take a yoga class or just grab a free bagel on the way to work, the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership has you covered.
The local group has announced its series of spring and summer events set to kick off this month. The list, all free of charge and open to the public, includes yoga classes for seniors in Clinton Hill, neighborhood walking tours and a month-long celebration of National Bike Month.

- Free Outdoor Yoga Classes
- The partnership's Sunset Stretch Series will bring free outdoor yoga classes to the Myrtle Avenue Plaza in Clinton Hill every Tuesday evening in May and June. The hour-long yoga classes will be taught by local yoga studios Sacred Brooklyn and Move with Grace. The series is sponsored by new Myrtle Avenue neighbor MedRite Urgent Care, who recently opened at 504 Myrtle Avenue.

- Green in BKLYN Celebrates 10 years
- The eco-friendly shop Green in BKLYN on Myrtle Avenue is celebrating 10 years in business. From 12 to 5 p.m. this Saturday a birthday party will be held at the shop including an e-waste recycling event, a store-wide 10 percent discount will be offered, live music, light refreshments and a raffle of in-store products. The event is open to the public.

- Neighborhood Walking Tours
- The annual historic walking tour series Wallabout Walking Tour returns this summer. It will allow attendees to learn about the rich history of the Wallabout neighborhood, starting at the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park and ending at Walt Whitman’s home on Ryerson Street. Tours are held the 3rd Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. Advance registration is required.
- Bike Month Celebrations
- May is National Bike Month and the partnership will celebrate by hosting several events. The group is partnering with Brooklyn’s 88th Precinct and The Brown Bike Girl for Bagels for Bikers on May 17, National Bike to Work Day, to offer free bagels and coffee to bike commuters. Riders can stop at the corner of Myrtle and Vanderbilt Avenues, between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. to grab their freebies and register their bikes for free with the 88th Precinct who use these registrations to help track lost or stolen bikes.
