Help Decide The Future Of Fort Greene Park's Myrtle Avenue Entrance

Two possible designs for a new Myrtle Avenue entrance will be up for debate at a Parks Without Borders community input meeting Wednesday.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — You can help design the northern border of Fort Greene Park Wednesday night when the parks department hosts its next community input meeting.

The Parks Without Borders gathering will allow residents to weigh in on two potential redesigns for the Myrtle Avenue entrance that are meant to improve the area’s accessibility, and well, prettiness.

Fort Greene Park is one of eight parks to be revamped through Mayor Bill de Blasio’s OneNYC $40 million initiative, which asked New Yorkers to vote on green areas in the city that needed money most in 2015.

Fort Greene residents voted for the Myrtle Avenue entrance to be updated because the crumbling entrance is uninviting and divides the neighborhood, according to the Parks Department.

"The current [northwest] entrance is not particularly inviting and is cut off from the community which is a shame given how pretty the park is,” one voter wrote.

“Redesigned entrance and smarter seating would make [t]he park more inviting and integrate it more with the community."

Two designs will be discussed at the meeting — the first adds more foliage to the area.

The second design would provide more seating.

The meeting is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at the Ingersoll Community Center gym at 177 Myrtle Ave.
