'Mobile Storytelling Lab' Will Collect Memories Of Fort Greene
A storytelling lab will set up shop in different spots this weekend as part of a project to create an audio history of the neighborhood.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Do you have a story to tell about Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church? Or the Walt Whitman Brooklyn Public Library? BRIC, a cultural programming organization, wants to hear it.
The nonprofit is hosting a project called The Future Historical Society, a collective of Fort Greene neighbors who hope to uncover and celebrate personal histories of the neighborhood. As part of that project, the group is pulling together audio recordings of stories about seven significant locations in Fort Greene.
"These stories are told through the perspective of personal meaning, human connection, and consideration for what we have, what we’ve lost, and what we hope to see in the future of this constantly changing neighborhood," the group said.

The project has already gathered some recordings for each location — which, along with the church and library, include Fort Greene Park, Ralph's Bodega, Wash and Play Lotto Laundromat, De Lux Natural Hair Gallery and Two Steps Down — but they are looking for more.
Future Historical Society's "mobile storytelling lab" will be making rounds this weekend and next week to create a gathering space to uncover and listen to new stories.

"We hope you’ll join us to share your own stories about the people and places that matter to you-- past, present, and future," organizers said.
