Motorcyclist Killed In Hit-And-Run On The BQE, Police Say

A New Jersey man was thrown from his motorcycle into traffic near the Flushing Avenue exit around 1 a.m. on July 4, police said.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — A New Jersey man was killed early Fourth of July morning when he was thrown off his motorcycle and into traffic on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, police said.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday Daniel Costa, of Elizabeth, N.J., was speeding his motorcycle eastbound on the expressway when he lost control and was thrown from the bike near Flushing Avenue's Exit 30. Costa landed in the middle lane, where he was hit by a car that drove away without stopping, according to the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.

Police said they arrived to find Costa, who was 37 years old, unconscious and unresponsive in the middle of the road with "severe trauma about the body." Emergency responders pronounced him dead on the scene.

There have been no arrests in the crash and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
