Pics: New Fort Greene Restaurant Miss Ada Opened Thursday

Chef Tomer Blechman, formerly of Maialino and Gramercy Tavern, has designed a menu of Mediterranean cuisine sourced with local ingredients.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — A new Mediterranean restaurant opened near Fort Greene Park on Thursday helmed by a chef who hales from the restaurants of Danny Meyer.

Mediterranean restaurant Miss Ada will open after months of renovating the space at 184 DeKalb Avenue — the former home of Martha — on May 11.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Israeli-born Chef Tomer Blechman, an alumnus of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group who has worked in the kitchens of Gramercy Tavern and Maialino.

Miss Ada — a play on the Hebrew word for restaurant, “Misada” — will offer modern Mediterranean fare cooked up with local ingredients — including herbs and vegetables grown in the restaurant’s backyard.

Chef Blechman, of Tel Aviv, drew inspiration for Miss Ada’s menu from his grandmother’s kitchen, he said.

The menu takes classic dishes — hummus, falafel, baba ganoush — and pairs them with new flavors like ginger aioli, eggplant chips and anise hyssop. The complete menu and reservation information are available on the Miss Ada website.

Blechman has studied at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park — where he met Miss Ada’s general manager Idan Bitton — and graduated to work in the kitchens of Gramercy Tavern, Maialino and Mario Batali’s Lupa.

The restaurant hold 42 seats in the dining room and 30 seats in the backyard, when the weather allows.

Patch first discovered the new restaurant when two wanted ads for bartenders and cooks appeared on Craigslist in early April.
