SEE: City Unveils $10.25M Redesign Plans For Commodore Barry Park
The Parks Department gave the first look at a $10.25 million project to upgrade a large section of Commodore Barry Park.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — After months of gathering community feedback, the city's Parks Department has unveiled a first look at its plans to upgrade the borough's oldest park and Fort Greene's second biggest green space.
Commodore Barry Park will be getting a $10.25 million revamp of its ballfields space, which makes up the largest portion of the 10-acre park.
The Parks Department recently presented their designs for this renovation to Community Board 2, which oversees the park, and the boards' Executive Committee voted unanimously in favor of the redesign plans this week. The Executive Committee vote acts as a stand-in for the full board's recommendation to the city's Public Design Commission.

Ballfields Plans:
The ballfields reconstruction will include upgrading the fields, putting in a new walking track and adding new sports lighting. It will also upgrade the entrance corridor by better integrating it with the surrounding spaces and making it accessible from Navy Street.

Future Phase:
The next phase of the project will provide an entrance from Flushing Avenue and Navy Street, reconstruct the playground and courts and provide a synthetic turf multi-use space.

The two new reconstruction projects were planned after gathering community feedback at various meetings.
Commodore Barry Park was part of a long list of public spaces proposed for dramatic renovations by The Brooklyn Strand more than two years ago.
The Park also recently got some upgrades to its pool as part of the city's Cool Pools NYC program. The upgrade will be revealed when the Parks Department's 53 outdoor pools will open for the season on Thursday.
The Cool Pools project gave "colorful make-overs" to six of the intermediate-sized pools and is in its second year. Other pools that got the facelift include Wagner Pool in Harlem, Dry Dock Pool on the Lower East Side, Liberty Pool in Queens, Claremont Pool in the Bronx and Tottenville Pool in Staten Island.
