FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Police have identified a woman found shot dead in a Fort Greene apartment Sunday as a local NYPD school safety officer, who they suspect was killed by her boyfriend in a murder-suicide, according to police and reports.

Naire McCormick, 44, and her boyfriend, Jancy Dempster, were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads in a Clermont Avenue apartment just before midnight.

By Tuesday morning, police had officially deemed McCormick's death a homicide and said they suspect Dempster had shot her and then killed himself, an NYPD spokesperson said. The spokesperson added that the incident is still under investigation.

The two had been celebrating Dempster's birthday and drinking heavily before police got a 911 call about harassment in the apartment, police sources told the New York Post.

Dempster killed McCormick and himself as his cousin and McCormick's 12-year-old son were in the next room, the sources said. The cousin and son ran into the hallway when they heard gunshots and were met by police responding to the 911 call, the Post said.
