Driver In 106 MPH Fatal DWI Crash Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter: DA

MINEOLA, NY — A Lindenhurst man pleaded guilty in court Wednesday to manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges that stemmed from a 2025 DWI crash that took the life of a 55-year-old man in Freeport, prosecutors said.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said Wednesday that 24-year-old Bryan Mizhirumbay had pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, second-degree assault and aggravated DWI, charges that could leave him with a prison sentence of up to 15 years. Prosecutors said they will recommend a sentence of up to 18 years.

"Bryan accepted responsibility today for his role in this tragic accident," Mizhirumbay's attorney, Steven Gaitman of Gaitman & Russo, said. "Up to this point he has been productive member of society, caring for his family, working and going to school. We are hopeful that all those affected by this incident are able to heal."

According to Donnelly's office, Mizhirumbay was driving 106 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone on Atlantic Avenue on the night of Sept. 3, 2025 when he ran a red light, slammed on the breaks and hit the driver's side of a car being driven by 55-year-old Craig White. White, prosecutors said, was driving home from work, traveling northbound on South Long Beach Road at the time of the crash.

On impact, prosecutors said both cars were tossed northeast across the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Long Beach Road, with White's car careening through a nursery's fence. Both cars, prosecutors said, "became engulfed in flames."

White was found unconscious and trapped in the driver's seat, prosecutors said. According to the DA's office, the driver's seat had been pushed into the passenger's side compartment from the crash's impact. White was taken to Mount Sinai South Nassau and pronounced dead, prosecutors said.

Mizhirumbay was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where a blood sample revealed his BAC was .18 percent about an hour after the crash, prosecutors said. Data collected from his vehicle showed that he had been driving 106 miles per hour three seconds before the crash, applied intermittent braking and hit White's car at about 90 miles per hour, prosecutors said.

"Bryan Mizhirumbay spent the evening drinking on the job as he served customers at a local restaurant before getting behind the wheel and hurtling down Atlantic Avenue at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour," Donnelly said. "He ran multiple red lights, creating hazardous conditions for every driver sharing the road with him, until his reckless and wild driving turned deadly. Craig White was heading home from his work at AHRC Nassau where he dedicated himself to supporting and caring for people with special needs – a job that he loved – when his life was violently stolen. His painful and tragic loss cannot be undone with this plea, but I hope that Craig's family, friends, and colleagues can find justice in the prison sentence this defendant will soon serve."
