• Freeport community remembers its lost neighbors at 9/11 ceremony (liherald.com) — Freeport neighbors gathered at the South Bayview Avenue memorial lighthouse to honor the 30 village residents lost in and after the 9/11 attacks, marking the 25th anniversary with candles, tributes, and restored memorial displays. Local firefighters, police, students, and clergy joined families in reaffirming that the community will keep teaching younger generations about the day's impact and the sacrifices of their neighbors.
• Photos by Pete Coco comes to Art Alcove in Freeport (liherald.com) — Freeport art lovers can see Long Island photographer and jazz musician Pete Coco's work on display this month at the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport's Art Alcove in the Freeport Recreation Center. His images, many drawn from Long Island and New York City's jazz scene, will be up through September, with a public reception date expected to be announced soon.
• Nassau high school football roundup: (newsday.com) — Freeport football fans can celebrate a big road win, as Christian McCravey exploded for 239 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lead Freeport High School past Herricks/Wheatley/Roslyn, 28–13, in Nassau Conference I play. The countywide roundup also highlights strong performances from neighboring schools, giving local sports followers a snapshot of how other Nassau teams are shaping up early in the season.
