Freeport Elementary Schools Host Character Education Assembly

FREEPORT, NY - Students throughout Freeport Public School District’s four elementary schools learned about character and environment etiquette through “Didgeridoo Down Under,” an interactive and high-energy assembly led by two performers.

The leaders of the assembly, Rob Thomas and Tanya Gerard, captivated students using an Aboriginal Australian instrument known as the didgeridoo.

Following a lecture about the importance of preserving the environment and also developing into model citizens, students had the opportunity to join Thomas and Gerard on stage to create sounds and songs using the didgeridoo and a variety of other instruments.

Students also learned about other facets of the Australian culture by observing artifacts and photos.

The “Didgeridoo Down Under” assemblies were a fun and educational supplement to the district’s ongoing character education programs.
