Gang Members Sentenced to Prison For Robbing Supermarket at Gunpoint: DA

The two Roosevelt brothers robbed the Uniondale supermarket in 2014, the DA says.

UNIONDALE, NY - Two Roosevelt brothers, who are both members of the Bloods gang, were recently sentenced to prison for robbing a Uniondale supermarket at gunpoint in 2014, according to the Nassau County DA.

On March 15, both Devance Broyles, 28, and Terrell Broyles, 26, plead guilty to first degree robbery, first degree criminal use of a firearm and second degree robbery before Court of Claims Judge Philip Grella, according to the DA.

Devance was sentenced on Friday to 12 years in prison while Terrell Broyles was sentenced on May 3 to 10 years in prison, the DA said. Both were also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision, the DA said.

On July 25, 2014, the two were at the supermarket when Devance approached the counter with a bag of bread.

He then pushed a gun against the store owner’s back and forced the owner behind the counter and demanded money from the register, the DA said.

When the owner didn’t open the register, he hit the woman in the head with a gun and Terrell then took a pouch of money that was next to the counter with $1,200 cash in it before fleeing the scene, the DA said.

The two were wearing sunglasses and what appeared to be shower caps during the robbery, which was caught on video, the DA said.

Fingerprints on the bag of bread led Nassau County Police to Devance, who was arrested in Roosevelt on November 9, 2014, the DA said.

Terrell was arrested at a relative’s apartment on April 9, 2015, also by Nassau Police, according to the DA.

“The defendants terrorized a shop owner by sticking a gun in her back and then pistol-whipping her,” District Attorney Madeline Singas said. “Thanks to great police work and to our prosecutors these dangerous gang members will now be off the street for many years to come.”
