Lights, Camera, Action at Roosevelt’s Hollywood Homecoming

Pep Rally, Parade and Victory in the Big Game

The Hollywood spotlight was on the Roosevelt School District on October 26 during it’s exciting homecoming on October 26. This year’s theme was “Let’s Go to the Movies,” and the District really rolled out the red carpet for students, staff, alumni and community members. During the Homecoming weekend, the Rough Riders defeated Roslyn/Friends Academy with a score of 33-7.

“Everyone in the Roosevelt School District community showed tremendous pride and spirit during a joyous and successful Homecoming,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn Wightman. “Our students put incredible dedication, thought and skill into a parade full of incredible performances, floats and costumes. The incredible weekend festivities led to a well-deserved home game for our varsity football team.”

Prior to homecoming weekend, all five schools in the district—including Centennial Avenue, Washington Rose and Ulysses Byas Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School and Roosevelt High School—held Spirit Week, allowing for students and faculty to show their school spirit. Each school also held a coronation ceremony, in which students were named to their school’s homecoming court.

The festivities led to pep rallies throughout the district on Friday before Saturday’s game at Roosevelt High School, where the Rough Riders defeated Roslyn/Friends Academy with a score of 33-7.

In staying with the theme for the year, the Board of Education marched in matching outfits holding Oscar statuettes. School principals, students, faculty, and PTA members marched in the parade with their own handcrafted banners and floats decorated according to Hollywood hits.
