Long Island Native Protests Donald Trump's Acceptance Speech at Republican National Convention

The Long Island born activist interrupted the presidential nominee's speech in Cleveland on Thursday night.

Freeport native Medea Benjamin attended Donald Trump's acceptance speech in Cleveland on Thursday night - but not as a Trump supporter.

Holding a sign that read "Build Bridges, Not Walls" the co-founder of Code Pink, an anti-war female activist group interrupted the presidential nominee's speech at the Republican National Convention.

She protested for "2 minutes" before she was escorted out of the arena, Benjamin said.

She said that the pro-Trump supporters were "beginning to get aggressive," which is something she says she expected.

Benjamin said she protested the event because she is concerned about the fact that he "attacks different groups in this country such as Muslims and immigrants."

"When you divide people and fuel hatred, it's sad for us as a nation," she said.

The Freeport High School graduate became an activist during high school protesting the Vietnam War.

She says her and her group have protested several of Trump's events in the past and plan to protest at more. In addition, they also plan to protest Hilary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention next week for her war policies.

According to their website, Code Pink is asking all presidential candidates to adopt their "ten point Peace Platform" which calls for foreign and domestic policy based on "respect, cooperation, non-violence and diplomacy, not war and hate."
