NYC Corrections Captain Could Face 25 Years in Prison For Shooting Wife in the Face: DA
The man was arrested for 2013 after shooting his wife during an argument, the DA says.

ROOSEVELT, NY - A Roosevelt man was convicted on Monday for shooting his wife in the face during an argument in 2013 and could face over 25 years in prison, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.
New York City Corrections Department Captain Brian Martin, 38, was convicted of second degree attempted murder, first degree assault, first degree criminal use of a firearm, third degree assault and twenty counts of second degree criminal contempt, the DA said.
The trial started on March 28 and the jury deliberated for one week. Martin is due back for sentencing on June 6.

In December 2013, Martin shot his wife in the face after an argument in which she told him that she wanted a divorce, according to the DA.
During a struggle between the two, Martin's wife, also a NYC Corrections Officer, was on the ground trying to get up when Martin, who was standing over her, fired the shot using his 9 mm Smith and Wesson Corrections Department approved service weapon as she looked away, the DA said.

The argument was the culmination of a year-long marriage marked by violence, according to the DA.
The woman was transported via ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center. The roof of her mouth was severely damaged in the shooting and she lost most of her teeth, the DA said. Her face had to be reconstructed using several metal plates.
Martin was arrested at the scene by members of the Nassau County Police Department First Precinct, according to the DA.
He was indicted for 264 counts of criminal contempt for violating restraining orders that were issued on behalf of his wife by calling her repeatedly from jail, the DA. Because of the large number of counts, only 20 were submitted for consideration by the jury.
“This cowardly defendant pointed his service weapon at his wife, shot her and nearly killed her,” District Attorney Madeline Singas said. “The victim suffered life-changing injuries and required multiple surgeries to reconstruct her face. Domestic violence is a top priority for my office and we will aggressively prosecute abusers like Brian Martin.”
